Thiago Alcantara & Daniel Alves Minta Maaf Atas Selebrasi Mereka

Alves: Messi friendship key to success

koclokindoblog, 31 maret 2012,

Dani Alves believes Barcelona are reaping the benefits of his close friendship with team-mate Lionel Messi.

Brazil international Alves and Argentine Messi have developed an excellent understanding in the attacking third of the field for Barca.

And former Sevilla man Alves has attributed their productivity to the amount of time they spend together away from football.

"Since the first contact we had with one another, we have had a very good friendship," Alves told Globoesporte.

"This rapport has also produced results on the field of play. What we have done together has greatly helped our team.

"We have no need to even look up as we already know where one another are.

"But the most important thing is the kind of person he is. I've had the pleasure of meeting his family, which consists of humble, working-class people."

Alves, 28, feels the two men's friendship is not unusual, even though they come from countries which have long been adversaries on the football field.

"The Brazilians and the Argentines only have a rivalry when they're facing each other," he said.

"Off the field, we are people who identify strongly with one another. What separates us is football.

"They have a hunger to win and we have that too. I would say this is the only downside to this good relationship that we have."

Barcelona will be hoping the pair are on the same wavelength once again in Saturday's vital La Liga clash with Athletic Bilbao at Camp Nou.

Alves slipped through Benitez´s grasp

koclokindoblog.blogspot.com, 23 maret 2012,

Rafael Benitez says Liverpool were unable to back him financially when he tried to sign Dani Alves and Stevan Jovetic for the Anfield club.

Spaniard Benitez, who led Liverpool to Champions League glory in 2005, left Merseyside in 2010 after a disappointing seventh-place finish in the English Premier League.

According to Benitez, financial constraints meant he was unable to lure Alves from Sevilla to England prior to the Brazilian's departure for Barca in 2008.

"Daniel Alves was our first option on the right side," Benitez told Sports Illustrated.

"The problem that we had was that I had to decide to bring Alves as a winger when he was an offensive full-back."

"It was a difficult decision as we had money at the time for only just one striker or a winger-fullback."

"We signed a striker - the striker was (Dirk) Kuyt, who to be fair has turned out to be a fantastic contributor to the club."

Benitez also claimed his attempts to prise Montenegro forward Jovetic from Fiorentina fell victim to the same budgetary limitations.

"Jovetic was our target but we didn't have the money," he said.

"My idea was to play (Javier) Mascherano, Lucas (Leiva), (Steven) Gerrard, (Alberto) Aquilani - two of these four players in the middle and Jovetic between the lines, but we didn't have the money."
