Dani Alves believes Barcelona are reaping the benefits of his close friendship with team-mate Lionel Messi.
Brazil international Alves and Argentine Messi have developed an excellent understanding in the attacking third of the field for Barca.
And former Sevilla man Alves has attributed their productivity to the amount of time they spend together away from football.
"Since the first contact we had with one another, we have had a very good friendship," Alves told Globoesporte.
"This rapport has also produced results on the field of play. What we have done together has greatly helped our team.
"We have no need to even look up as we already know where one another are.
"But the most important thing is the kind of person he is. I've had the pleasure of meeting his family, which consists of humble, working-class people."
Alves, 28, feels the two men's friendship is not unusual, even though they come from countries which have long been adversaries on the football field.
"The Brazilians and the Argentines only have a rivalry when they're facing each other," he said.
"Off the field, we are people who identify strongly with one another. What separates us is football.
"They have a hunger to win and we have that too. I would say this is the only downside to this good relationship that we have."
Barcelona will be hoping the pair are on the same wavelength once again in Saturday's vital La Liga clash with Athletic Bilbao at Camp Nou.
