MLS: Henry injured in Red Bulls´ win

29 Apr 2012

koclokindoblog, 29 April 2012, There was mixed news for the New York Red Bulls on Saturday as Thierry Henry scored the winner before limping off injured against New England.

Henry scored his ninth goal of the season in the seventh minute of the match to give New York a 1-0 win over the Revolution, but hobbled from the pitch just 14 minutes later with a hamstring injury in a big blow for the side.

Connor Lade's curling ball forward was in the perfect position for Henry to rush past his mark and leave Revolution goalkeeper Matt Reis stranded as the Frenchman chipped his first touch into New England's goal.

The injury came in the 23rd minute, with Henry hitting the ground despite no contact and leaving the match with what the club is reporting as a right hamstring strain.

Meanwhile, the San Jose Earthquakes jumped back to the top of the Western Conference as two second-half goals from Steven Lenhart proved the difference in a 2-1 victory over Philadelphia Union.

Eddie Johnson scored his first goal in nearly two years and also added an assist in the Seattle Sounders' 2-1 win over the Chicago Fire.

The US international and former Fulham forward teed up David Estrada near the end of the first half after making a darting run behind the Fire back line. Estrada's shot took a wicked deflection on the way in, wrong-footing Sean Johnson.

Johnson had no excuse on the second when he casually spilled a Fredy Montero free kick. Jhon Kennedy Hurtado kept the play alive, and Johnson poked home for his first goal since May 2010.

The Montreal Impact left it late, but two goals in the final 15 minutes of play gave the Canadian outfit a 2-0 win over the Portland Timbers.

Bernardo Corradi scored the first in the 76th minute after Steven Smith was called for a handball in the box, and the scoring was rounded out in the 84th minute when a Davy Arnaud cross found Sinisa Ubiparipovic at the back post.

In other matches, DC United took three points from a thrilling 3-2 win over the Houston Dynamo, while former South Korea international Lee Young-Pyo scored his first goal with Vancouver Whitecaps in the MLS in a narrow 1-0 win away against Columbus Crew.

Toronto FC tied that an unwanted league record with a seventh straight loss to start the season in a 3-2 defeat to Real Salt Lake.

Los Angeles Galaxy salvaged a 1-1 draw with FC Dallas thanks to a 90th-minute goal from Pat Noonan, and Colorado Rapids thrashed Chivas USA 4-0.
