Lionel Messi's father Jorge said he never dreamed his son would break Barcelona's all-time goal-scoring record at such a young age.
The 24-year-old Argentina international has been in fine form of late, and a hat-trick against Granada earlier this week increased his tally for Barca to 234, seeing him surpass Cesar Rodriguez at the top of the charts.
"You always dream about these things, but I never thought he would do it so young," Jorge Messi told Argentine news agency Telam.
"I believe his contribution to the team is more important, although it is still great to see him score a goal, especially in this situation.
"I guess it is important to be remembered for a club like Barcelona, but what he enjoys most is that Barca are still in the race to win the league."
Messi senior went on to reveal that his son's chief objective was now on the international stage.
"His dream is to win a World Cup with the national team. Leo has always wanted that," he said.
