Franck Ribery has already set his sights on a mouth-watering Champions League semi-final showdown with Real Madrid.

Bayern Munich completed a 4-0 aggregate win over Marseille at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday and Ribery's thoughts immediately were focused on the Spanish giants.

A double from Ivica Olic enabled the Bavarians to coast to victory against their Ligue 1 opponents, with Jupp Heynckes' troops having done all the hard work at the Stade Velodrome last week.

Ribery is well aware that things will not quite be as straightforward against Madrid, who are 3-0 up ahead of their second-leg clash with APOEL at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday, but he is looking forward to the challenge of trying to shoot down the Liga leaders.

"I think we'll face Real Madrid in the semis and that's super for us," the winger told Sky.

"We're currently playing very well. Real are a big club and I hope that there will be two good games for us."

Meanwhile, Ribery was keen to praise team-mate David Alaba, who had a fine game against Marseille.

"When you're playing at Bayern, it's never easy," the France international said. "You have to win every game and that's not easy.

"But Alaba is a great kid: 19 years old and yet so good. You really don't have the feeling that this is really just a kid who is playing with us."

Meanwhile, Marseille striker Loic Remy said his side tried their best but were not good enough.

The 25-year-old striker was quick to offer his thoughts on the defeat, and remained adamant that his side can turn around a testing season.

"We played against a very big team, we can measure now the path that is left to achieve. We tried our best, we fought, but they (Bayern) are too good." the striker told TF1.

"We have now got to hold our heads high in the league and we still have the League Cup (final against Lyon on April 14). We'll see.

"It is a very difficult season but we'll fight for our remaining objectives."

Marseille play arch-rivals Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1 on Sunday, before facing leaders Montpellier in a week. Bayern Munich resume their title charge against Augsburg at the weekend.

Allegri praises Barca brilliance

AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri has heaped praise on Champions League quarter-final opponents Barcelona ahead of Tuesday's return leg.

The Serie A giants travel to Camp Nou knowing that a victory or a score draw will see them progress in the competition after a goalless stalemate in the first leg at San Siro.

Allegri concedes Barca have the edge and admitted that his side have not prepared for the match properly.

"We have not had too much time to prepare for the game tactically because we have been playing every three days," Allegri said.

"We will do it tonight in Barcelona. In any case we played against them just last week and we are ready.

"Barcelona are still the best side in the world, but there will be some crucial moments tomorrow night that we have to make the most of. I expect Barca to be at their best.

"I am not going to think too much about the final score, it could finish 0-0 and go to penalties although I doubt that will happen."

Saturday's 1-1 draw with Catania has left Milan just two points clear of second-placed Juventus in the Serie A, but Allegri has called on his players to switch their focus to the continental clash.

"The team must not think about the mistakes at Catania," the 44-year-old said.

"We are going to Barcelona to play a game that is worth a semi-final spot in the Champions League and we have to only think about that.

"The Scudetto can wait for a few days."

Alexandre Pato could make his first appearance for the club in over a month after being named in the squad for Tuesday's match, but Allegri still has doubts about the Brazilian's fitness.

"I saw Pato yesterday for the first time in a month, he trained for the first time with the squad," he added.

"He will conduct his second training session tomorrow and then I will see."

Champions League preview: Bayern Munich vs Marseille

Marseille have a big challenge before them when they travel to Bayern Munich for their Champions League quarter-final second leg on Tuesday.

The Ligue 1 side trail 2-0 after their home leg, and need to beat their German opponents - who have won their past seven in all competitions - by at least two goals at the Allianz Arena.

The last time Bayern lost by two goals at home was to Borussia Dortmund in February last year, a season in which Jurgen Klopp's men went on to win the title.

Bayern midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger said the club is hungry for success on the European stage.

"At the moment, there's total desire in the team, and all credit for that," Schweinsteiger said.

"We have to make the most of our good position in the Champions League on Tuesday thanks to victory in Marseille."

Munich are within reaching distance of a rare home Champions League final appearance, as the venue for the decider has already been allocated to the Allianz Arena.

It is fair to say Bayern will already be thinking of playing Real Madrid - most likely - in the semi-finals of the competition, given Marseille have lost eight of their past nine matches in all competitions.

Five league losses, two defeats in the Champions League and a Coupe de France exit has seen Didier Deschamps' side be robbed of any momentum heading into the latter stages of the season.

Marseille midfielder Alou Diarra, who is suspended for the leg in Germany, said Bayern's elder statesmen led the way in the first-leg victory.

"You could say experience was the difference," he said.

Diarra added that Marseille have no expectations of advancing into the final four.

"We have nothing left to lose," Diarra said.

"It's not mission impossible. We scored three in Dortmund in the group stage.

"Bayern drop very few points at home so it will take a big performance, but we know we have the ability to cause them problems."

The winner of the Marseille-Bayern tie will take on the victor in the Real Madrid-APOEL Nicosia fixture, with the La Liga powerhouse favoured to progress at home after winning the opening away leg 3-0.

Champions League preview: Barcelona vs AC Milan

koclokindoblog, 2 april 2012, Only a win will do for Barcelona when they host AC Milan at the Camp Nou in their Champions League quarter-final second leg on Wednesday.

The holders looked lethargic in the sides' goalless draw at the San Siro a week ago and while Lionel Messi and co could not manoeuvre their way around Milan's miserly defence, many at the club blamed a pitch described as 'unacceptable' for the result.

Now, in the safe confines of the Cam Nou with an 'even' pitch, there will be no excuses for Pep Guardiola's side, who have won 17 consecutive games at home.

Curiously, the last time they were held in front of their faithful was back in September of last year, in the Champions League group stage, -against AC Milan.

A score draw is all Serie A leaders Milan need in Spain, but they will need to find a result without key defensive pillars Thiago Silva and Mark van Bommel, who are both injured.

For Barcelona, Carlos Puyol, rested in their 2-0 win over Athletic Bilbao on Saturday and used in a left-back role in the first leg, will undoubtedly return to the side on Wednesday while Cesc Fabregas is also available.

"We've dealt with it and today he (Fabregas) was better. So, even though we were forced to leave him out he will be there against Milan on Tuesday," Guardiola said after the Bilbao match.

Barcelona still have faint hopes of reining in La Liga leaders Real Madrid but will be otherwise preoccupied as they attempt to win back-to-back Champions Leagues.

Jose Mourinho's men were in formidable form in their 5-1 win over Osasuna on Saturday that arrested two straight losses but with the El Classico yet to be played, Barcelona remain in the hunt.

Massimiliano Allegri's plan to stifle Barcelona worked a treat in the first leg, with veteran Alessandro Nesta and Daniel Bonera, in particular, hard to breach in defence.

Doing that again will be a tough ask as few sides have been able to keep Barcelona's attacking armoury at the Camp Nou at bay for long.

In the Serie A, Milan threw away a 1-0 lead against Catania to eventually draw 1-1 and see their four-game winning streak come to a halt.

Former Barcelona striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be the key for Milan with his strength and power making him unplayable at times.

Messi blames Milan pitch for draw

Barcelona striker Lionel Messi was disappointed with the 0-0 draw against AC Milan on Wednesday.

The Catalans created a number of chances in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie, but failed to find the net at San Siro, and Messi feels that the poor condition of the pitch made things difficult for Barca.

"It was a tough match that we should have won. We played our game but it was difficult because of the pitch, and because they (Milan) are very strong," Messi told the club's official website.

The Argentine then admitted that Barca face a perilous scenario in the return leg at home as the tie remains delicately poised.

"It’s a dangerous situation. Either team could go through. We hope we can score in the return so it will be us. We deserved to win (the first leg)."

Meanwhile, Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf felt his team should have done better in front of goal.

The Serie A champions put in a strong defensive display to shut out the Catalans, but were also unable to find the net themselves.

"We’re satisfied with the result even if we have to be more clinical in front of goal. We had three big chances and that could make the difference," Seedorf told the Milan website.

"It’s a good result that leaves qualification open. We’ll need courage, quality and tactical awareness in the return.

"You can’t press for 90 minutes, but we did well and Barcelona respect us. The pitch at San Siro is the way it is. We have Catania next and then we'll think about the second leg. Now we need to rest."

The second leg is at Camp Nou on April 3.

Ribery hails ´perfect result´ against Marseille

Bayern Munich star Franck Ribery was delighted to beat old side Marseille in their Champions League quarter-final first leg on Wednesday.

The Germans have one foot in the semi-finals after Mario Gomez and Arjen Robben gave Bayern a comfortable 2-0 advantage from their trip to the Stade Velodrome, and Ribery said it was their ideal result.

"This is a very good situation for us. The result is perfect, it is better than a goalless draw or a 1-0 victory," Ribery told Sky Sport Germany.

"We played with a lot of discipline and we deserved to win."

Ribery said he felt for Marseille's third-choice goalkeeper Elinton Andrade, who was unable to stop Gomez's shot as the ball squirmed under his body and into the net.

"I think it was a hard blow for him and Marseille. He had not played this season," Ribery said.

The France international also reiterated that he is happy with life at Bayern and admitted he does not feel comfortable playing in his homeland.

"It is always difficult for me to play in France. But now I play for Bayern, who are a great family," the 28-year-old said.

"I have been here for five years. I feel just fine, everything is perfect for me."

Ibrahimovic happy to grab draw against Barca

AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic was satisfied with a draw against Barcelona in their Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday.

The Swede missed a great chance to score against his former club in the first leg of the tie, but with Milan able to shut out the Catalan giants and prevent an away goal, Ibrahimovic remains in good spirits for the second leg at Camp Nou next week.

"We had some opportunities but, unfortunately, we unable to score," Ibrahimovic told Sky Sport 24.

"However, the result is very good for us. I am optimistic for the second leg."

Fellow forward Urby Emanuelson is also looking to move on quickly to the return leg, after spurning a great opportunity within seconds of his arrival as a substitute during the second half.

"My appearance was a bit unlucky. In my first action I could have scored but forgot the ball. That can happen," Emanuelson told NOS.

"I know that was a very important moment, but what can I do about it right now after the match? Let's try better next time.

"I think we will get chances next week. Barcelona always play their own game, so we will have opportunities."

Emanuelson - a Netherlands international - was also relieved that his side were able to keep Barca maestro Lionel Messi at bay during the game, with the Argentine forward unable to add to his 12 Champions League goals in the current campaign.

"Messi played like Messi. He's always dangerous and never plays a bad match. We're glad he did not score tonight," the Dutchman said.
